A well known critic for literature wrote in a Swiss newspaper: "The book of Terry Eagleton with title "The Meaning of Life" gives very bright answers about the question: What is the Sense of Life? Where do humans come from? Where do we go? Seldom, the sense-question for our Being has been analysed so intelligently and ironically then by the British critic of culture: Terry Eagleton."
Let's see where the final result of the studies of Terry Eagleton will us lead to:
Apparently this author and critic of culture cites a lot of philosophers and other thinkers and comes to the conclusion that the striving after "LUCK" is the most important thing for individuals on this planet Earth. The second item to be taken under control is "LOVE".
So each human who has the chance of "Coming and Living on Earth" should try to become as lucky and full of love as ever possible. I admit that I take here an abbreviation on Eagleton's theories because his other comments are not worth the paper written on.
"The Meaning of Life" according to Rene Delavy
The only reasonable concept of a meaning for all human lives must be - if taken on a fundamental basis: "When you are born in a paradise, try to maintain that paradise. When you are born in a hell of reality, try to change matters and let it turn in the interest of your children and future generations, in favour of all other humans, animals, plants, short in the interest of the whole planet and its living creators, into a paradise."
Now, this concept is very interesting because just now, after some broken systems like socialism, communism, existentialism, deconstructive ideas of pragmatism, after belief and trust in several GODS, we experience a reality where the whole society risks with a system of capitalism, of a terrifying concept of casino-cash, making some very rich and most of the population getting towards general poverty, we risk to sink down into a horrible scenario of losing all hope into the future.
There are reasons for this State of Affairs
Where is GOD?
Most people on this globe believe that there is a GOD to protect all of the humans. Already there are less folks to believe that there is a GOD or ALLAH who would protect: Animals, plants, water, air, resources, richness of minds, education and intelligence, reasonability and feasibility and thus the general "Meaning of Life". In short: Not one person on this globe, not even the Pope of Rome, knows: Who is God, what is God doing, why should we have a God, what are HIS plans and intentions and whereto will HE lead humanity. So the question of God becomes in the downwards train of humanity a crucial question, although we don't know if that God can really protect LOVE and LUCK of the few who from birth to death can say: I was lucky and in love and I made other persons to be lucky and in love.
What is the concept of "LUCK"?
As the word LUCK says, it has much to do with coincidence. And when we look in the history of humanity what can we see? We can see times of war, of torture, of pain, of senselessness. It is a form of highest cynicism to write of a "Meaning of Life" when at the moment of writing, any person could know: Just now, plenty of humans die in a war, females are violated in masses, children starve because society sees no help anymore, millions of animals live under pain in a holocaust and die in incredibly horrible ways, the resource risk to get out and become priceless, pollution of the Earth will let minimize the number to survive on a planet turning into a hell instead of a paradise. But during all this time, some rich people were lucky enough, under systems of capitalism, neo-liberalism, communism and dictatorships, to have a beautiful life without pain, poverty, sorrows how to live on the next day.
So, to make the concept of LUCK or HAPPINESS being the major sense for life means to let all the rest of humans fall down the drain. In times when the richest VIP lose their wealth within month in trillions of Dollars, Rubels, Euros, Swiss Francs etc., in times when a Middle Class that existed only for a short while on this planet, is going to vanish, and where Poverty will be exploding in a way that in the year 2025 more than 90 percent of world population risk to be living on an exhausted planet, where economy went into a disaster, the unbalancing of the climate ended in collapses of ecology, where the mounting stupidity of writers seems to tell us, that a little bit of Luck and Love would make good for the real Life, in times when all this happens, humanity should have a new concept for "Meaning of Life" as they had ever before. Again, we should be able to understand: Each human should try to make a change during his lifetime, in order his children to see a paradise - and not a hell.
What is the concept of "LOVE"?
Do you know what love is? Is it sex? Is it the feelings, any young couple experiences, before real life brings them back on Earth? Is love the concept we can see in all Bollywood and Hollywood films, a feeling of superficial luck in small scales and numbers that seems to last for ever, when each person knows that "LOVE" is not to be expressed in words? There are thousands of facets of love, between a couple, man and woman, between women, between men, towards children, the own ones and others, love for animals, love for beings of any kind, love for minorities of people with other beliefs, love in literature and philosophy, love in Hitler, Stalin, Bush, Pinochet, Greenspan, Sarkozy, Merkel, Berlusconi, Putin, Hu and Wen, Singh and Barack Obama.
You can see, any person, any animal, any thing, any concept can be loved. And what about the question with regard to INTENSITY OF LOVE? Each married couple of the world had made the experience that the first love of sex and well being must be followed by a concept of mutual respect and acceptance of the other person as a completely different human being as I am myself - and still accepting it.
But we learn, not only from Cheney, Kissinger, GW Bush, Hillary and Putin, there are people that should be loved and other to be killed: They are terrorists, they are enemies, they have not our interests, they are "either in favour of us, or against us" - and therefore free to be killed, tortured, waterboarded, kept in atrocious jails and holes of fair and pain, thrown in the Atlantic, the baby of parents in hands of officers, millions put in concentration camps in Auschwitz, Buchenwald or any place in New Europe or Guantanamo or Abu Ghraib, put under Napalm fire by millions in Vietnam, or collateral fire in Iraq or Afghanistan. Some others are hacked in pieces and violated before death in Rwanda, Congo, Argentina, Chile or Chechnya - in short in almost any country of the world.
Accepting reality as a true and honest concept with regard to "Meaning of Life"
Dear Terry Eagleton: Your book may impress some brainless critics of philosophy and literature, but you will not change one jota to the downfall of humanity from the year 2000 until the year 2050. And the reason is: Who is striving for LUCK and LOVE, instead of better life for all humanity, animals and our lost planet Earth, should forget about thinking brightly in direction of a better "Condition humaine" - and for all times.
We perhaps have still a chance on this globe, but only if humanity learns to read the right and intelligent books that may exist in some cellars or garages, Friends.
Conclusion
Who pretends that some few people in a destructive world can arrange for themselves, perhaps around Detroit, Kabul or Lagos, to live some happy days, if lucky and in love, if not living in misery, pain and anxiety and fair, having some dimes to live under best controls of his lifetime and the one of his children, is nothing more but what we call here a "Schoendenker" - or in English: A person who thinks his and other people's reality in nicest colours of being, when at the same time, his planet and his wealth on banks, insurances and old age is going - due to an immense stupidity of politicians, bankers, CEOs and other Masters of the Universe, representing the contrary of LOVE and LUCK, in fact our total concept of being, is going down the Orcus of future times, for a whole species.
It is very sad that people are forced to buy books about nothing when at the same time, never before in history of Homo non- sapiens, men and women should wake up and seek for a new sense in existence, before going up in the ultimate light of God, of whom no bluffer in any religion or philosophy could say, if that God would be lucky, happy and in love with an odd humanity - a species that lost any compass, where our life, our reality, our planet Earth should be going to.
